A warning goes out to Cornwall after a series of thefts across the Hayle area.

Police say tools were swiped from vans over the weekend, and we are being urged to remain vigilant and secure property.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward in connection with reports of thefts from vans in the Hayle area recently.

"A Ford Transit van parked in Bodriggy Court, Sea Lane Copperhouse, Hayle was entered by unknown means, tools were stolen. This took place between 9:10 and 9:30pm on Sunday 11 March 2018.

"A Ford Transit van also parked in Melyn Close had a lock tampered with and a Peugeot Partner van parked in Caroline Row, Hayle had a lock tampered with."

If you are offered any tools, see any adverts, have any information, or have any CCTV in the area please email 101@dc.police.uk, or phone 101 quoting crime CR/021154/18.

Please phone 999 if you hear or see any suspicious activity.

The advice to van owners to consider extra security:

  • Please remove all tools if possible
  • Consider additional external locks
  • Alarm your vehicle if there isn’t one already fitted
  • Consider an internal lockable cage/tool box
  • Ensure all tools are permanently property marked with name and postcode and use appropriate signage warning thieves that all tools are removed from the vehicle, or similar
  • Keep a copy of serial numbers and take photographs of tools
  • Park in a well-lit area with doors close to a building etc to make access more difficult
  • Consider installing CCTV
  • Remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to police-999 if suspects in the area.
