UPDATE: Investigation launched after 'unexplained' death in Plymouth

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 6:01am 16th March 2018. (Updated at 9:22am 16th March 2018)

Detectives have launched an investigation after what they call an 'unexplained' death in Plymouth.

Police and paramedics were called to Old Laira Road on Wednesday evening where they found the body of a 43-year-old man.

Originally the death was being treated as suspicious, but officers now do not believe that to be the case.

The man’s family has been told although formal identification has not yet taken place.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at an address in Tavistock on suspicion of murder and has since been released with no further charge.

Now detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances of the man’s death.

Senior investigating officer DI Steve Hambly said: “Following further enquiries and completion of a post mortem, we can now confirm that the death is no longer being treated as suspicious.

"The man arrested has been released, with no action taken against him.

“Whilst no longer regarded as suspicious, the circumstances around the death remain unexplained, and as such further enquiries will continue today, and it is anticipated that a file will be submitted to H.M. Coroner in due course.”

Anyone who can assist with the investigation is asked to contact police via 101@dc.police.uk or by phone on 101, quoting log number 649 of 14/03/18.

Information can also be passed anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org
