Police investigation after alleged sexual assault

Police are investigating claims of a sexual assault near Penzance.

Witnesses are being urged to come forward after it was reported that a man followed a woman into an alleyway behind a row of houses in St Just, before assaulting her.

The incident is alleged to have occurred between 5.45pm and 6.15pm on Tuesday.

Officers have described the man as being a white man between 50 and 60 years old and around 6ft tall.

He is believed to have been of regular build and was wearing a checked shirt, tweet jacket and a silver earring in his left ear.

It was also reported that he walked with a limp.

The incident is thought to be isolated and the victim is being supported by specialist officers.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following allegations of a sexual assault in St Just near Penzance.

"The incident is reported to have occurred on a footpath near Lafrowda Close, between 5.45pm and 6.15pm on Tuesday 13 March.

"The suspect is described as being a white man between 50 - 60 years old and around 6 feet tall. He is believed to have been of regular build and was wearing a checked shirt, tweet jacket and a silver earring in his left ear.

"He is also thought to have walked with a limp.

"It is believed the offender followed the victim into an alleyway behind a row of houses before assaulting her. Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and saw or heard anything to contact police.

"The female victim is currently being supported by specialist officers in West Cornwall. This is believed to be an isolated incident and is being investigated by Detectives in the area."
