Murder charge after woman's body was found in Penzance

A man has been charged with murder after a woman's body was found in Penzance.

Police discovered the 56-year-old dead after being called to Dock Lane on Saturday.

Officers are tracing her family and say formal identification has not yet taken place.

The area was cordoned off while detectives went over the scene and carried out a full investigation.

A 61-year-old man, who has no fixed address, appeared before Truro Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

He has been remanded in custody and is due before Truro crown Court on the 17th April.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found at a property in Dock Lane, Penzance, on Saturday 17th March 2018.

"The victim, a 56-year-old woman, has not yet been formally identified, however, her next of kin have been informed.

"Enquiries are underway and a scene guard was put up at the property at Dock Lane whilst officers from the Major Crime Investigation Team, assisted by officers from West Cornwall police, carried out a full investigation".

Officers are appealing for anyone who has information to contact police via 101@dc.police.uk or by 101 quoting CR/023351/18.
