A dog was rescued after going over the cliffs in a Cornish town.

Porthleven Coastguard were alerted to the incident near the Tye Rock Hotel in Porthleven on Saturday morning.

The springer spaniel  had chased a bird when off the lead, went under fencing to an unstable and high area before falling 50 to 60 feet.

The area was difficult to access as it was a small and unstable space but the team managed to haul the dog who's called Monty in a special rescue bag.

Someone at the scene filmed the whole rescue and Porthleven Coastguard are keen to see the footage.

A spokesperson from Porthleven Coastguard said: "Her puppy was off lead, saw a low flying bird and took chase and Monty got under a fenced off area that was very high and unstable and fell 50/60 ft to the beach below. Our team at Porthleven were paged at about 9.25am and we set up a cliff recovery in a very difficult, small and unstable area. All team members too an active part in this rescue and due to the professionalism and skill of everyone we had a very successful outcome for Monty and his owner."
