VIDEO: Man airlifted after big rescue off Cornwall

A man has been airlifted to hospital after a huge fall on the Cornish coast.

It happened at Trevone Round Hole; the collapsed sea cave near Padstow that is over 80ft deep.

Two Coastguard teams, the helicopter and paramedics were involved in a major rescue on Tuesday night.

The casualty, in his 50s, was rushed to Derriford and crews have confirmed he has serious injuries.

Pirate FM understands the operation, which started at around 5pm, lasted most of the evening.

Posting on Facebook, local Richard Higman said: "Please do not climb down the Round Hole at Trevone. 

"Unfortunately, someone went down earlier this evening and fell when he was trying to get back up.

"He is now on his way to Derriford Hospital in a Coastguard helicopter. I hope he makes a good recovery".

A spokesperson from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "Regarding the incident at Trevone, the Coastguard was alerted to the faller by the ambulance service.

"Padstow and Newquay Coastguard Rescue Teams and the Coastguard helicopter from Newquay were sent, along with SW Ambulance and an air ambulance.

"The casualty was rescued by the Coastguard helicopter and taken to Derriford hospital".
