A night to remember... as one groom-to-be pulls off the 'perfect' proposal in St Ives (with a little bit of help!).

Photos have revealed the stunning spot that John Appleby decided to ask partner Sarah Mullord to be his wife.

And it could, quite possibly, be the most romantic proposal we have ever seen.

John, from Hertfordshire, said: "I chose St Ives because it's a beautiful part of the country. I wanted somewhere next to the coast because I love the sea and the beach and so does my fiance Sarah.

"I did lots of searching for hotels and locations, then thought 'I'm in trouble - I need some advice'."

He then found Jenny Granlund, owner of Jenny Wren Wedding and Event Planning in Cornwall, who was more than happy to help.

John said: "After many phone calls and videos, we decided on St Nicholas Chapel.

"There were many locations on the beach but the chapel seemed really special."

After months of planning and endless contact with Jenny, the pair headed down to the Duchy for the weekend in time to get the show started.

And it was after a meal in the town, that John suggested the couple have a stroll to St Ives' island.

He said: "I think she was a little bit worried originally!

"We got to the top and that's when Sarah saw the lights and realised it was a chapel with the cross on the top.

"She walked forward and saw the blackboard sign which said 'Sarah take the key' and burst into tears.

"She asked what was going on and joked about me taking her into the chapel to murder her. It was all very suspect!

"But she took the key and walked into the chapel while crying - then I got down on one knee and that was it."

The couple then spent the next couple of hours enjoying photos which Jenny and her assistant had pinned up around the chapel, before drinking some bubbles in blankets outside with a firepit - and a stunning view of St Ives.

John said: "It was really, really nice - it just went all according to plan.

"There was not one hiccup, Jenny and her assistant waited in the darkness to help out when we needed."

He was also delighted to confirm that Sarah did in fact say yes - and who could say no to a proposal like that?!

Jenny describes how important it was that they hunted for the perfect location.

She said: "After we found the location, I helped him style it - we flooded the inside of the chapel with candlelight and fairylights, so it was really romantic.

"We lit a pathway leading up to the chapel too."

She says, along with her assistant, she then had to ward of members of the public who were curious to find out what was going on.

She added: "We had quite a lot of attention while we were there, lots of people taking photos!"

She hadn't actually met either one of the couple before either and says it was quite hard to make sure they had got the right couple in the dark.

But as the sun went down, the pair made it to the top in time to make the most of the incredible views over the bay.

John said: "All of our friends have just said this is the best thing ever and that it is the most romantic proposal ever.

"I feel like I have done men justice, we are romantic sometimes!"

He adds that he couldn't have done it without Jenny.

He said: "She is absolutely incredible incredible at her job and she was brilliant to work with - I couldn't recommend her enough."
