WATCH: Temperatures set to soar in Cornwall

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 1:40pm 13th April 2018.

Temperatures in Cornwall could soar as experts say a mini heatwave is heading for the UK next week.

After a cool, grey, drizzly spell, it is thought it could reach as high as the mid-20s Celsius, with the Duchy's weather set to improve drastically over the next few days.

The Met Office says it could start by Monday - and the warmest temperatures will be towards the east of England.

But Greg Dewhurst, senior meteorologist, is hopeful for the south west too.

He said: “We’ll see an increasing amount of sunshine across the area and hopefully light winds.

“We could see temperatures in the low 20’s by Wednesday and possibly Thursday as well."

However, before any decent weather across Cornwall, Greg says we will see some unsettled conditions.

He said: “Sunday looks more unsettled, with showery rain moving in and some strong winds.

"It looks like that could last into Monday and Tuesday as well but it should become drier after that.”

Warmer conditions will come as the jet stream moves north and high pressure over Scandinavia extends towards the UK.

Both will increase the likelihood of drawing in very warm air from Europe.

While the whole UK should see higher temperatures, the south will be warmest, with the mercury set to reach the mid-20s Celsius by the middle of the week.

An onshore breeze, however, will keep some southern coasts cooler, as sea surface temperatures are at their coldest around now.

There will be plenty of sunshine though, and UV levels will rise.

Those will allergies are also being warned to be wary as pollen levels rise.

But we are being advised to make the most of the summery conditions, with unsettled conditions forecast to follow (surprise, surprise).

March, which saw two dumpings of snow, may rank as the third coldest in the last 30 years.

April has not been much better, being cold and gloomy for many!
