A bomb squad was scrambled to a Cornish beach over the weekend - after someone found a box of live ammunition.

Crews were called to Gorran Haven after the live 20mm ammunition washed up at Vault Beach.

The Coastguard say they were paged at 2pm on Sunday and it was the second find in just two days.

The Royal Navy EOD team were on the scene, along wish Truro, Perranporth and Tregony Police.

They are now urging parents to talk to their children and make sure any similar items found are immediately reported to 999.

A spokesperson for Mevagissey Coastguard said: "The team were paged at 2pm today, after a member of the public discovered a box containing live 20mm ammunition that had washed up at Vault Beach, Gorran Haven.

"This was the second such find in two days, the first find being dealt with by our police colleagues at Truro, Perranporth and Tregony police.

"The team secured the ammunition until the on call Royal Navy EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) attended from Plymouth to collect it.

"This live ammunition is dangerous and if you see any on the coast please call 999 and request the coastguard.

"We’d urge parents to discuss this with their children so if they find similar items on our beaches they know not to touch them and report it immediately.

"Thanks to John Baldry Photography for some of these photographs."
