Plane crashes into field near St Agnes

A light aircraft has crashed near a Cornwall village.

Firefighters were scrambled after it happened in the St Agnes area on Thursday afternoon.

They say that one person, the only occupant of the aircraft, has been taken to hospital but is believed to be 'uninjured'.

The Critical Control Centre got the call around 2.25pm.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue said: "At 2:25pm this afternoon the Critical Control Centre received a call reporting that an aircraft had crashed in the St Agnes area.

"Fire Service Resources were immediately dispatched.

"On arrival a light aircraft crash was discovered.

"Firefighters assisted to make the aircraft safe and to provide first aid to the single occupant of the aircraft who has been transferred to the care of the ambulance service."

Road closures are currently in place at Porthtowan and Mount Hawke.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Emergency Services are currently at the scene of a light aircraft crash on Penwinnick Road near St Agnes. 

"Police were called at around 2.20pm following reports that a light aircraft carrying one sole occupant had collided into a field.

"The pilot is believed to be uninjured and paramedics are on the scene.

"Road closures have been put in place at Porth Towan and MountHawke.

"The Civil Aviation Authority have been informed."
