A property fire near Porthcurno is being treated as suspected arson.

Four fire engines got the shout on Monday evening after smoke was seen billowing.

Crews from Penzance, St Just and St Ives were all called to the scene to find the property well alight.

The used jets to put the blaze out and think it may have been started on purpose.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "On receipt of this call both appliances from Penzance and an appliance from St. Just were mobilised.

"Whilst on route a large plume of smoke was seen in the vicinity of the incident and a 'make pumps four' message was sent, a further appliance from St. Ives was mobilised.

"On arrival a property measuring approximately fifteen by ten metres was well alight, teams of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used main jets and high-pressure hose reel jets at the scene.

"Update 19.46 hours: The fire has now been extinguished, crews are damping down and turning over monitoring for hot spots.

"Arson is suspected, Devon & Cornwall Police have been informed."
