Cornwall's junior doctors among happiest and highest achieving

It has been revealed that junior doctors in Cornwall are among the happiest and the highest achieving in the south west.

A new study conducted by the General Medical Council found 80% of Cornwall Foundation Trust junior doctors are passing all of their exams against a national pass rate of 50%.

And 85% stated that they are satisfied and happy with the training given on the job.

The GMC conducts a national training survey every year to monitor the quality of training in NHS organisations.

The survey helps to make sure that medical education and training is meeting the standards set by the GMC to support high quality medical care across the UK, as well as looking to see what areas require improvements.

This year's results see the Cornwall Foundation Trust gaining a higher than national average score for 'satisfaction' and the highest rating across all mental health trusts in the south west.

Clincial tutor Dr. Greg Mather said: "The 2017 GMC Survey found that we have once again achieved the highest overall satisfaction rating for medical training in psychiatry out of all the Trusts in the South West and scored considerably higher than the national average across a range of parameters.

"Cornwall welcomes trainees to a dynamic and friendly training scheme which as well as being highly rated in annual surveys, has also supported trainees to achieve very high pass rates in postgraduate examinations.

"Medical training is highly valued in Cornwall as a key component of building a successful thriving health community.

"As a county, Cornwall offers much to the doctor in training as they seek to develop their careers and a sustainable and harmonious balance between life, family and work."
