One of Falmouth's most stand-out buildings is up for sale - and sellers promise panoramic views 'unlike any other'.

The former weather observatory boasts a 'mesmerising' outlook for miles across Falmouth, the surrounding countryside and coastline including Falmouth Bay and the Carrick Roads to St Mawes.

And the iconic, mostly-octagonal building can be yours - for over £600,000.

Built in 1868 by Quakers from The Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society, it sits on some of the highest ground in the area and was originally used to provide weather information to the local population, as well as a way to engage them in meteorology.

Nowadays, the modern interior highlights the building's unique shape and offers the chance to watch the super yachts that can be seen below.

It was last renovated as recently as 2011 and now includes a fully-glazed observation deck, as well as the chance to admire the views via the 1950s camera obscura, which projects the image onto a table.

However, set across five floors, it isn't quite as roomy as you might think with just 113 square metres of space.

According to Lillicrap Chilcott, the current owners use the property as a holiday let, rather than their primary home.

A spokesperson said: "Although designed as a functional building, its position on very high ground, surrounded by beautiful period terraced houses which it towers over with its pristine white octagonal shape, makes it an outstanding architectural building as well.

"The property has been used as a high end holiday rental with tariffs of up to £1,400 per week and our clients are prepared to sell the property with ongoing bookings and its own personal website."

Floating your boat yet? Here's more!

Not only is the unusual building a hot holiday let, it is also within excellent walking distance to Falmouth's quaint, seaside town and stunning beaches.

It is also just a short ferry-ride from the popular harbour St Mawes and villages sitting on the edge of the Helford River.

Describing views from the top, the spokesperson continued: "The outlook across Falmouth and inland is also extremely interesting and there is a genuine feeling of flying over Falmouth as opposed to being in ones own private, exquisitely created space."
