Group rescued after getting cut off by tide in Falmouth

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 12:47pm 11th May 2018.

Four people have been rescued after getting cut off by the tide on the outskirts of Falmouth.

Coastguard crews and a lifeboat were called to Maenporth on Sunday evening after the group got into difficulty.

They were picked up by the lifeboat and taken back to safety on the beach.

No-one was hurt but officials gave them some 'words of advice'.

Now coast-goers in Cornwall are being urged to check tide times.

A Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team spokesperson said: "The team was tasked to a report of four persons 'cut off' by the tide at Maenporth Beach.

"Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was also tasked to assist.

"Team members located the four persons and given their location, it was decided that they were best recovered by the lifeboat.

"We guided the lifeboat into their position and once they had all been transferred to the ILB, the casualties were dropped off to the beach to waiting Coastguard Rescue Team members.

"No medical attention was required and the casualties were sent on their way after some suitable words of advice."

They added: "If you're out and about enjoying out wonderful coastline, please be aware of some of the hazards. In this case - 'check the tide times!'

"There are numerous tide apps available for your mobile devices and even the good old fashioned 'tide table' books available from most local news agents and supermarkets.

"If you spot anyone in trouble around our coasts, please dial 999 and ask for the coastguard."
