More details about fatal crash on Cornwall's A30

Pedestrian dies after early-hours collision on the A30

Police have released more details after a fatal crash on the A30 in Cornwall.

A pedestrian has died after being caught in a collision with a van near Redruth.

Officers have confirmed he is a 23-year-old man who was from the local area and his family knows.

It happened between the Avers and Scorrier junctions at around 1.15am on Saturday.

The eastbound carriageway was closed for around six hours as investigators went over the scene.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone who saw something to come forward.

A force spokesperson said: "At approximately 01:16 hours on Saturday 19th May 2018, a single vehicle versus pedestrian road traffic collision occurred on the A30 dual carriageway near to Scorrier, Redruth.

"This has occurred on the Plymouth bound carriageway.

"A silver coloured VW Caddy van has struck a male pedestrian who was walking in the carriageway.

"As a result of the collision, a 23-year-old male was located by Police at scene and was given first aid.

"Sadly the male died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by a Family Liaison Officer.

"Numerous emergency services attended the scene and any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the Police on 101 quoting Log 71 - 19/05/2018.

"Police would like to thank the members of the public for their patience whilst we investigated the scene".
