Dramatic footage of fire at popular Newquay hotel

This is the moment a fire broke out at one of the main hotels in Newquay.

The Atlantic managed to evacuate safely in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The blaze, that started in a balcony bedroom, scrambled crews from St Just to St Austell.

Graham Parker filmed this video after being evacuated and told Pirate FM it was 'scary'.

He said: "We were three rooms away. Very scary but the staff were excellent and we were given refuge in a nearby hotel.

Taxis were laid on both ways, back in the hotel around 7:30am and breakfast was served! Well done!

The damage to the Atlantic Hotel on Sunday morning

Fire crews have confirmed several bedrooms were damaged but said, hopefully, things would be back to normal soon.

The Atlantic has confirmed the blaze broke out in a balcony bedroom, describing it as an "incident concerning smoking".

They welcomed guests back first thing on Sunday morning and insist it is business as usual.

Locals and guests have been posting on social media to offer their support.

Commenting on the Atlantic's Facebook page, Conny wrote: "Glad all is well. Beautiful hotel. Loved my stay there a few years back. Must come back soon".

Lee said: "So sorry to hear about the fire in your lovely hotel, have stayed there a few times. Glad to hear everyone is safe".
Barry posted: "Good to hear everyone is safe from what could have been a tragic but easily avoidable event".
