Huge fire breaks out at flats in Bodmin

A man has suffered burns to his feet after a fire in Bodmin.

A woman rang 999 on Wednesday night, saying her flat was on fire and her boyfriend and cats were still inside.

Crews from the town, Lostwithiel and Wadebridge found smoke billowing from the building on the Kinsman Estate.

Police and paramedics were also scrambled but when emergency services arrived, everyone had made it out.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service say the blaze broke out in a kitchen and it started by accident.

A spokesperson said: "On receipt of this call, critical control mobilised appliances from Bodmin, Lostwithiel and Wadebridge.

"The caller stated that her flat was on fire and her boyfriend and cats were still in the property.

"The CCC operators made the call persons reported and then requested ambulance and informed the police.

"On arrival, crews found all occupants to be out of the flat. There was smoke issuing from the first floor of a three-storey block of flats.

"The fire was located in the kitchen and extinguished using two breathing apparatus, one hosereel and one covering jet.

"There was one male casualty who suffered with burns to his foot and was treated by the ambulance personnel on scene.

"The cause of the fire was accidental".
