Burning car rolls down street in St Austell

This is the dramatic moment a burning car ended up outside a business in St Austell.

Crews think the vehicle rolled down the street and onto a pavement near a funeral directors.

They scrambled back-up in the early hours of Thursday morning, amid fears flames would spread to a building.

Luckily, the team from St Austell Community Fire Station managed to douse the blaze in time.

A spokesperson said: "One pump was mobilised to a car on fire. Upon arrival, the car had rolled down the road and mounted the pavement near to buildings.

"The Incident Commander requested 'make pumps two' as a local business was becoming involved in the fire and more resources may have been required. A second pump arrived shortly after and secured water supplies.

"Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using two hosereels extinguished the fire.

"We waited for a keyholder to attend so we could check for fire spread with a thermal image camera.

"Thankfully the fire was extinguished before spreading through the building.

"The incident was left in the hands of Devon and Cornwall Police".
