Police have launched an investigation after a suspected assault and kidnap in Falmouth.

Witnesses say they saw a man being chased by a woman on Smithick Hill last Sunday afternoon.

A car then reportedly sped towards them, officers say the victim was then assaulted and put into the vehicle.

Now police say they are concerned for the man and his whereabouts, as they haven't heard anything since.

DS Scott Ellwood said: "A member of the public contacted police with reports that they had witnesses a man being chased by a woman onto Smithick Hill in Falmouth.

"A black Citroen C4 Cactus car was then seen driving at speed towards the man who was forced to stop.

"The woman assaulted the man several times causing him to fall to the floor where he was assaulted further before being put into the car by the woman and an unknown male driver.

"We are concerned for the welfare of the victim and his whereabouts. We have had no further reports and have yet to hear from any victim reporting this incident.

"We are appealing for anyone else who witnessed the incident and appealing for the victim himself to contact us and make himself known so that we can ensure his safety and to clarify the incident."

A 21-year-old man from Helston was arrested on suspicion of assault, kidnap and possession of a controlled drug.

He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information and witnessed the incident is asked to contact police via 101@dc.police.uk or by calling 101 quoting CR/043780/18.
