A plane has had to make an emergency landing in Cornwall because a passenger became ill.

The flight from Edinburgh to Tenerife diverted to Newquay because the passenger needed urgent medical attention.

Officials say the person was taken to hospital before the plane took off again and continued to its destination.

An easyJet spokesperson said: "easyJet can confirm that flight EZY6949 from Edinburgh to Tenerife on Wednesday 6th June diverted to Newquay due to a passenger onboard requiring urgent medical assistance.

"Paramedics met the aircraft on arrival in Newquay where the passenger was taken to hospital and the flight continued to Tenerife.

"The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is easyJet's highest priority."

A spokesperson for Cornwall Airport Newquay said: "We can confirm that an EasyJet aircraft diverted into Cornwall Airport Newquay yesterday evening due to a medical emergency."
