Armed officers have been flown to a Cornish village amid reports of a man with a weapon.

Devon and Cornwall Police say it happened around 12.40pm following concerns for the welfare of a man believed to be in possession of a weapon on Church Road, Mount Hawke, near Redruth.

An ambulance was also called to the scene.

They say no threats were made and, after negotiation, he was taken to hospital.

Officers remain at the site but say that they do not believe any offences have been committed.

A spokesperson said: "Police were called at around 12:40pm today following concerns for the welfare of a man believed to be in possession of a weapon on Church Road, Mount Hawke.

"No threats were made by the individual, but armed units attended the property along with an ambulance.

"Negotiators made contact with the man who declared that he was having a medical episode. He was treated by paramedics prior to being taken to hospital.

"Enquiries continue and officers remain at the scene. At this time it is not believed that any offences have been committed."
