House damaged after car fire in St Austell

Crews scrambled to a car fire in St Austell found smoke billowing from the roof of a house.

They managed to stop the blaze from spreading further, after flames engulfed a garage.

The building was damaged after it happened near the town centre on Friday afternoon.

However, St Austell Community Fire Station has confirmed no-one was trapped or injured.

Posting on Facebook, they said: "Two pumps from St Austell were mobilised to a garage 'well alight' spreading to property.

"Upon arrival, smoke was seen coming through the house roof and the garage was consumed by fire.

"'Make pumps three' was requested by the commander and a pump from St Dennis was mobilised.

"Initially, crew members wearing breathing apparatus used a jet and a hosereel to knock back the flames on the house before dealing with the garage.

"A second crew entered the loft space and ensured the fire had been stopped from spreading.

"Thankfully quick action saved the property and no persons were trapped in the building.

"Crews monitored the situation and stood-by whilst officers carried out a fire investigation".
