Traffic chaos on Cornwall's busiest road as a number of incidents cause delays on the A30

The main road in and out of Cornwall is starting to clear again after a multi-vehicle crash caused series delays on a stretch of the A30 westbound near Newquay.

Police say fire crews were called just before 12pm, after three vehicles were caught in the collision near the Mitchell turn-off.

It is thought that one person was trapped and emergency services were at the scene.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Fire called police just before midday with reports of a three vehicle collision on the A30 near Mitchell, in the Newquay area.

"The early indications is that one person is trapped.

"The vehicles are a Toyota saloon, BMW 328i and a Ford.

"Emergency services are at the scene and road users are advised to avoid the area."

Meanwhile, delays from an earlier car fire on the A30 eastbound between Blacktor Downs and Jamaica Inn Road had also caused major issues.

Lanes were closed on both sides of the road but have since re-opened.

Traffic monitor Inrix said: "One lane closed and very slow traffic due to earlier car fire on A30 Eastbound between Blacktor Downs Road (Temple) and Jamaica Inn Road ( Bolventor ).

"One lane reopened at around 12:00 after the carriageway was blocked to extinguish the fire.

"The second lane remains closed while the vehicle awaits recovery. Affecting traffic between Bodmin and Launceston."

Both incidents are now clear.
