BREAKING: Crash shuts stretch of busy Cornwall road

Man trapped as crash shuts busy Cornwall road

A busy Cornwall road has been closed in both directions following a two-vehicle crash.

Police say a man and a woman have been injured and a stretch of the A390 has been shut after it happened near Newbridge, Callington.

It is believed to be affecting traffic between Liskeard Road and Quethick Road.

Emergency services have been called to the scene and officers say that a man was reportedly trapped.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around 1.20pm today to reports of a collision between two vehicles on the A390 at Newbridge in Callington.

"A woman and a man are reportedly injured.

"Fire services and ambulance services are in attendance as one man reportedly trapped in vehicle."

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue said: "Critical Control received a call from Police requesting assistance at a Road Traffic Collision persons trapped.

"The Firefighters from Callington, Liskeard and Bodmin arrived on scene to a two vehicle collision with one male severely trapped. 

"Crews used cutting equipment to release male from vehicle and left in care of ambulance."

Traffic monitor Inrix said: "Very slow traffic and road closed due to accident, two vehicles involved on A390 in both directions between Liskeard Road (Callington) and Quethiock Road / Pensilva Road (Butchers Arms junction, St Ive).

"The road remains closed following an accident just outside of Newbridge."

Elsewhere, one lane has been closed westbound on the A30 at Chiverton Cross Roundabout.

It is after a crash between a lorry and a van.

Recovery work is currently underway.

Inrix reported: "One lane closed and slow traffic due to recovery work and accident, a lorry and van involved on A30 Westbound between A3075 / A390 / B3277 (Chiverton Cross Roundabout) and A3047 ( Scorrier ).

"Lane two (of two) has now re-opened after debris was cleared from the carriageway.

"Lane one remains closed for recovery work to be carried out."
