Photos reveal the sheer size of HMS Queen Elizabeth, anchored off Cornwall.

The impressive Royal Navy ship has been snapped in Mount's Bay over the last couple of days.

Pirate FM understands she is in the area for specialist training, before heading to America.

Among the budding photographers, Ashley Banfield who captured the above shot of Elizabeth on Tuesday morning.

He said: "HMS Queen Elizabeth off Penzance this morning. There was aircraft landing on her deck this afternoon".

Mark Peters was walking his dog when he managed to take these cracking shots in Mount's Bay.

He joked "its guns are aimed at the Mount" and described walking three miles just to get photos.

What do we know about HMS Queen Elizabeth?

On its website, the Royal Navy says: "HMS Queen Elizabeth is the first of a new class of aircraft carriers that will be the biggest and most powerful warships ever constructed for the Royal Navy.

"Only one previous ship bore the name HMS Queen Elizabeth. She fought in the Dardanelles and supported the Galipoli campaign.

"It was on board the 1st HMS Queen Elizabeth that the German fleet handed in their surrender.

"Fast forward to the 21st century, when the new HMS Queen Elizabeth is commissioned by Defence Secretary, Des Browne".

It added that in 2014: "The new carrier is launched at Rosyth by Her Majesty The Queen, ushering in a new era for the Royal Navy and British naval warfare".
