Police issue update on crash that shut busy Cornish road

Police have confirmed that no one suffered life-changing injuries after a crash that shut a main road through south east Cornwall.

Two vehicles hit and two people were taken to hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

The A390 was closed in both directions at Newbridge near Callington on the A390.

Emergency services were called after reports that somebody was trapped.

At the time, a Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at around 1.20pm today, [12/06] to reports of a collision between two vehicles on the A390 at Newbridge in Callington.

"A woman and a man are reportedly injured.

"Fire services and ambulance services are in attendance as one man reportedly trapped in vehicle."

Now officers say that two people were taken to hospital but they are not seriously hurt.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue said: "Critical Control received a call from Police requesting assistance at a Road Traffic Collision persons trapped.

"The Firefighters from Callington, Liskeard and Bodmin arrived on scene to a two vehicle collision with one male severely trapped.

"Crews used cutting equipment to release male from vehicle and left in care of ambulance."
