Businesses close to the scene of a massive fire in Truro have launched a fundraising appeal.

Police investigating the blaze that tore through sheltered housing have confirmed a man has been arrested.

A scene guard, put in place as officials combed the wreckage for clues, has since been lifted.

The nearby cheese shop is trying to raise money to support families who have lost their homes.

Calvin Ashwood works there and says a lady who regularly pops into their Nitter Natter group is badly affected.

He told Pirate FM: "She, actually, was involved in the fire and she literally has nothing other than the pyjamas she was wearing.

"As a business owner I though what, actually, can I do to help this lady but it's not just her; there are other people involved.

"You see it on TV and stuff like that but for this to happen to somebody that lives a hundred yards away is just shocking.

"Photos, memories, the general decoration in your house is just gone. It must be awful for her and the other people who are living there at the moment".

Staff are donating tips and you can help by visiting The Old Cheese Shop at 29a Ferris Town, Truro TR1 3JH.
