A man was rushed to hospital after a crash that shut a stretch of Cornwall's A30 for seven hours.

Police say a car went into the back of a tailback and a 48-year-old man was taken to Derriford.

He suffered suspected serious injuries following the multi-vehicle collision at Two Bridges, but was later released.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone who saw something just before 3pm on Saturday to come forward.

A spokesperson said: "At 14:51hrs on Saturday 16th June 2018, police were informed of a multi-vehicle collision on the A30 westbound carriageway just prior to Two Bridges, Polyphant, Launceston.

"A vehicle had run into the rear of a tail-back which had occurred as a result of a broken down vehicle in the carriageway some distance further west.

"A 48-year-old man was taken to Derriford Hospital with suspected serious injuries but was later released".

Highways England confirmed the road had reopened just after 11pm on Saturday night.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson added: "A total of seven vehicles were seriously damaged in the collision.

"The road was closed for seven hours for forensic collision investigation work and vehicle recovery".

Anyone with information is asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police on 101, quoting log number 523 of 16/06/18
