A man left clinging to cliffs after a fall on the Cornish coast path has sparked a major rescue.

Coastguard rescuers, the helicopter and Cornwall Air Ambulance were scrambled on Wednesday.

Paramedics also rushed to the scene, along with officers from Devon and Cornwall Police.

Posting on Facebook, St Austell Coastguard Rescue Team were among the first on the scene at Caragloose Point.

"The team were called out today to the reports of a person clinging to a cliff. It was to support Portscatho Coastguard and Mevagissey Coastguard and our area SCOOs who were on station with us completing our 6 month equipment checks. It came less that 24 hrs after the delivery of our new vehicle.

"The team made way to Caragloose point, and worked along side Rescue 924, Devon and Cornwall Police and South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to extract the casualty.

"The casualty was located and moved to safety by Rescue 924 and passed to the care of the ambulance staff. We then assisted with transportation of the crews back to their vehicles.

"The call was the right decision and made early meant this was a great outcome".
