Pride organiser Nathaniel Charles has told Pirate FM police are combing though CCTV.

"We turned up the next day, at seven o'clock in the morning, and found that someone had vandalised one of the benches.

"Sadly, it had been in part of the oil-based paint, not the water-based paint, which means they actually indented and grooved whatever they spelt into the paint itself.

"We were very upset. It feels like someone's just tarnished it and made something that was really positive and fun and energetic - they stripped that back and took it away".

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone who saw something to come forward, calling it "distasteful criminal damage".

"Police are investigating the defacing of a bench in Newquay that took place over the weekend.

"A number of benches in the area have been painted to help celebrate the Pride event which is taking place shortly.

"It has been reported that one bench in The Crescent had been defecated on; a distasteful message was also scrawled across the bench.
