A crash that closed the A30 in both directions has left an elderly driver seriously hurt.

The man was airlifted to Derriford after a car overturned between Victoria and Indian Queens.

Police confirmed two elderly women, who were both passengers, also suffered serious injuries.

Devon and Cornwall Police believe the man's injuries are life-changing but not life-threatening.

"Police are seeking witnesses to a single-vehicle collision on the A30 at St Columb in Cornwall ON Tuesday 31st July which left three people seriously injured.

"Emergency services were called at 5.50pm after the purple Ford Focus left the road between Victoria and Indian Queens.

"The car travelled up the embankment to underneath the overbridge of the A30 before coming to rest on its side against the Armco barrier.

"The driver, a 71-year-old man from Cheshire, sustained potentially life-changing injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

"The two female passengers, a 67-year-old woman from Cheshire and a 71-year-old woman from Somerset, were taken by ambulance to Treliske Hospital with serious injuries.

"The road was closed for seven hours for the casualties to be treated and for police to carry out a forensic examination of the scene.

"Plymouth Roads Policing Team are investigating and appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them".
