A baby has reportedly been left alone in a hot car outside a supermarket in west Cornwall.

Shoppers raised the alarm after spotting the tot at Lidl in Penzance on Monday.

One, who wanted to remain anonymous, shared this photo on social media as a warning to other mums and dads, calling it "irresponsible".

The woman said she understood the store had contacted the police and the family took the baby out of the car.

"Unbelievable how people thinks it's acceptable to leave their baby alone in a car in this heat whilst they do shopping!

This happened in Lidl's Penzance today! "They claimed they had been gone 10 minutes when we had been there 10/20 minutes, along with other members of the public!".

Pirate FM contacted Devon and Cornwall Police, who said they had no record of the incident on their logs.

Lidl released the following statement, to confirm staff worked to together to resolve the situation.

"I can confirm that an incident occurred in the carpark of our Penzance store on Monday afternoon and our team worked together to resolve the matter.

"Out of respect for our customers' privacy we are unfortunately unable to share any further details".
