Damage after lorry crash on A30 in Cornwall

A driver has described the frightening moment he hit debris after a lorry crash on Cornwall's A30.

Simon Robinson-Barr's car was badly damaged in the aftermath of the collision at Scorrier.

The lorry struck a bridge on Wednesday night, sending the digger it was carrying into the road.

Lane closures remained in force on Thursday morning and road repairs took several hours to sort out.

"As we came round the bend, there was a lot of dust and debris in the road and it was quite low down.

"I think that as the digger fell off the vehicle, it damaged the electrics and the lights were off; you couldn't see anything.

"I hit something that was in the middle of the road and it has damaged my car.

"Instead of going past it, I pulled in because I realised other people behind wouldn't see what was happening.

"The police said they were surprised no-one was seriously hurt".

The westbound carriageway was badly damaged.
