Simon Robinson-Barr told Pirate FM his car badly damaged in the aftermath of the collision.

He described the moment he hit debris as frightening, adding it was lucky no-one was seriously injured.

"As we came round the bend, there was a lot of dust and debris in the road and it was quite low down.

"I think that as the digger fell off the vehicle, it damaged the electrics and the lights were off; you couldn't see anything.

"I hit something that was in the middle of the road and it has damaged my car.

"Instead of going past it, I pulled in because I realised other people behind wouldn't see what was happening.

"The police said they were surprised no-one was seriously hurt".

Driver, Simon Robinson-Barr

One lane was closed for emergency road repairs until just after 1pm on Thursday.
