Four rescued as blow-up chair drifts off Cornish coast

Four people, drifting a mile out to sea on an inflatable chair being towed by a broken down jet-ski near Penzance, have been rescued.

Penelee Inshore Lifeboat launched from Newlyn at around 3.30pm on Saturday.

They found the group one mile south of Battery Rocks around five minutes later.

Three people discovered sitting in an inflatable chair being towed were helped into the boat.

One person remained on the jet-ski so the lifeboat could tow it back to Penzance Harbour.

"At 3.30pm this afternoon the Penlee Inshore lifeboat launched from Newlyn to reports of a broken down jet-ski towing three people in an inflatable chair which was drifting 1 mile south of Battery Rocks.

"Mollie and Ivor Dent arrived on scene at 3.35pm, transferred 3 people across to the lifeboat, leaving one person on the jet-ski and towed it to Penzance Harbour. 

"All four casualties were safely dropped off and the Inshore lifeboat returned to Newlyn arriving at 4.15pm".
