Driver airlifted after crash in Cornish village

A driver has been airlifted to Derriford hospital after a crash in a Cornish village.

The 19-year-old man suffered serious injuries to his legs and pelvis at Goldsithney near Penzance.

He had to be cut free after a car and tractor hit early on Monday evening.

Police are appealing for clues as to what happened, after the collision shut the road for eight hours.

"Police were called at 17.10am on Monday 20th August following reports of a two vehicle collision on the B3280 near Goldsithney, Penzance.

"Emergency services attended the scene of the head-on collision involving a Suzuki Swift and a tractor.

"The driver of the Suzuki, a 19-year-old man, was trapped in the vehicle. He was taken by air ambulance to Derriford hospital for injuries to his pelvis and lower legs. The driver of the tractor was uninjured.

"The road was closed for eight hours whilst emergency services attended the scene and waiting for specialist recovery for the tractor".

Firefighters, paramedics, Coastguard crews and a helicopter were also scrambled, just after 5pm.

"Fire crews from Penzance, Tolvaddon and Helston Community Fire Stations and an officer attended a road traffic collision with a person trapped.

"Fire Crews rescued the person using crash rescue equipment.

"Police, ambulance, an emergency helicopter and Coastguards were also at the scene".
