Rescuers have carried a woman, injured after a fall on the Cornish coast path, over a mile on a stretcher!

Coastguard crews from Mevagissey rushed to help after the walker took a tumble overlooking Pentewan Beach.

The light was fading as they lifted the casualty, believed to have broken her ankle, up and down a steep valley.

She was checked over by paramedics on Sunday evening before being taken to Treliske.

"The team were paged at 7.54pm 19th August 2018, to assist the ambulance service after a lady fell on the coast path overlooking Pentewan Beach, possibly breaking her ankle.

"The team arrived at 8.11pm, located the casualty and once she was assessed by a paramedic, we loaded her onto our rescue stretcher and carried her approximately 1.5 miles to the road.

"It was a very difficult carry out, down and back up a steep valley and over a fence in fading light.

"The team very worked hard, swapping over regularly, and we were only too happy to help!

"The lady was taken to Treliske hospital and after a debrief, Mevagissey Coastguard were back on call for emergencies on the coast".
