Searches at Perranporth amid fears for young man

Late night searches have been carried out amid concerns for a young man's welfare in Perranporth.

Police say the 20-year-old was on the beach and threatening to hurt himself.

Officers, paramedics and the coastguard were all scrambled to the scene in the early hours on Wednesday morning.

The man was found safe about 90 minutes later.

"Police and ambulance were called at 00.50am today [22nd August] following concern for the welfare of a man in Perranporth.

"The man had gone onto the beach and was threatening to harm himself.

"Officers and HM Coastguard carried out a search of the beach.

"The 20-year-old man from Truro was located safe near the beach around 2.15am."
