Man fights for life after 'hit and run' in Cornwall

Police have launched an appeal for clues after a suspected hit and run in Cornwall that has left a man fighting for life.

The 42-year-old from the Liskeard area was airlifted to Derriford with "multiple life-threatening injuries".

A 43-year-old woman from the Looe area was also injured in the collision on the A3082 on Saturday night.

Officers want to speak to the driver of a taxi who is understood to have followed a vehicle that left the scene.

A local woman in her 20s was arrested and has since been released under investigation.

"At 11.23 pm on Saturday 25th August 2018, police were called to a collision on the A3082 approximately 200 yards towards Par from Four Turnings, Newton, Fowey.

"A 42 year old male from the Liskeard area was airlifted by Search and Rescue helicopter to Derriford Hospital with life threatening multiple injuries and remains in a critical condition.

"A 43 year old woman from the Looe area was also conveyed by land ambulance to Derriford Hospital with less serious injuries and has since been released from hospital.

"A 28 year old woman from the Par area has been arrested and released under investigation. The vehicle she had been driving has also been seized for examination. 

"Police are appealing for any witnesses who have not yet come forward to police to contact the Alliance Roads Policing Team.

"In particular, the driver of a BMW TAXI, with passengers on board, who, it is understood, followed the offending vehicle immediately after this collision".
