Fresh sightings of seal tangled in netting off Cornish coast

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 6:40am 28th August 2018.

There have been two fresh sightings of a seal tangled in netting off the Cornish coast.

A desperate search was launched after the young male, called Lucky Star, was spotted several times off the north coast.

The poor creature was first seen towards the end of May but was scared off before it could be rescued.

Conservationists are worried the entangled animal will not survive if it is not rescued and cut free.

But he was spotted alive and well over the bank holiday weekend.

Unfortunately teams still couldn't get to him quick enough to cut him free though.

"Lucky Star is still alive, which is great news.

"The first time we saw him in May he was disturbed back into the sea before a rescue could be organised.

"CSGRT have been out searching for him again this week.

"He has been seen twice but despite everyone's best efforts, he was disturbed by people on both occasions before a rescue could be set up."
