Driver caught doing paperwork behind the wheel

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 1:43pm 4th September 2018. (Updated at 1:50pm 4th September 2018)
Devon and Cornwall Police have caught a driver filling out paperwork behind the wheel... on the motorway.
The driver was spotted on the M5 on Tuesday morning.
The No Excuse road safeyu team tweeted: 'Every job has paperwork, but that doesn't mean you should be filling it out on your steering wheel whilst driving along the M5!!'
Now officers are warning that distraction driving, including using a mobile phone whilst driving, can carry a hefty fine and points on your licence.
This comes as the Police and Crime Commissioner is carrying out engagement about road safety over the summer where distraction driving has ranked as one of the top concerns for Devon and Cornwall residents.

"I am shocked that people still think this kind of behaviour is acceptable.
"Nothing is so important that it can't wait until you have reached your destination or pulled over in a safe place.
"Drivers need to understand that their actions have consequences - some of which can prove fatal. I hope the driver in question learns their lesson and won't repeat what's been seen today.
"This is fantastic work by our No Excuse team helping to make our roads safer for all users."
Police and Crime Commissioner, Alison Hernandez
In July and August the team tweeted nine separate incidents of fines and points delivered to drivers using their phones whilst behind the wheel as well as incidents of speeding, drunk/drug driving and uninsured motorists.
The full results of the PCC's engagement on road safety will be published at the end of September.
