The places in Cornwall you may not know dogs are banned

Dog owners love to take their four-legged friends out and about but did you know there are 136 places in Cornwall where you are not allowed to take your dog at all?

In fact, these are the places where doing so could land you with a fine of up to £1,000.

Cornwall Council has placed public space protection orders (PSPOs) on all these areas all over the county.

They cover parks, playing fields and cemeteries and the only exceptions are for people who use assistance dogs such as guide dogs for the blind or hearing dogs for the deaf.

Anyone who takes a dog onto the areas affected will be guilty of an offence unless they have a “reasonable excuse for doing so” or have permission from the landowner or authority.

Police officers, PCSOs and authorised council officers are allowed to issue on-the-spot £100 penalty fines for anyone caught with their dog on the areas of land.

However anyone who is found guilty of the offence at magistrates’ court could face a fine of up to £1,000.

The last PSPO schedule issued by the council was made in October 2017 and will remain in place for three years.
