WATCH: The moment lone yachtswoman is rescued off Cornwall Coast

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 4:06pm 7th September 2018.

Footage taken on board Penlee RNLI lifeboat has captured the moment crews rescued a lone yachtswoman on the Cornwall coast.

The all-weather lifeboat ‘Ivan Ellen’ towed the 12m British registered yacht ‘Satori’ back to Newlyn on Sunday.

The lone crew member had been sailing from the Azores 18 days earlier - heading for Plymouth.

Light winds meant she was motoring for days and ran low on fuel.

Now footage taken from the RNLI boat has been released:

Falmouth Coastguard Operations Centre called the RNLI for help and she was met 19 nautical miles off Newlyn.

A crew member, Ben Keogh, moved to her yacht and a tow was set up.

"Our crew were tasked to launch at 3.38pm this afternoon by Falmouth Coastguard Operations Centre to give assistance to a lone yachtswoman who left the Azores 18 days ago heading for Plymouth.

"Due to the light winds she had been motoring for many days and was running very low on fuel."

The crew also shared footage of some companions on the journey home - dolphins.

They were spotted swimming alongside the boat.
