Armed police descend after incident in Penzance

Armed police have descended on Penzance following reports a shop worker was held at knifepoint.

The alleged incident happened at Lucille's General Store on Alverton Terrace on Saturday.

Officers and a police van could be seen in the area and officers have confirmed a man has been arrested.

Posting on Facebook, owner Barry Mould said Lucille was taken to hospital and although shaken, is OK.

"As you may know or have heard, my shop Lucille's was involved in an incident that involved Lucille herself being held at knifepoint at our shop. She is OK - a little bit shaken and is up at hospital.

He added: "With police I have to close my shop for the rest of the day.

My sincere apologies but family is very important to me and Lucille and George are family. Thank you for your understanding".

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed they were called to reports of a "knifepoint robbery".

"Police were called at 12.26pm to a report of a knifepoint robbery at Lucille's General Store on Alverton Terrace, Penzance.

"As a result of inquiries, a 44-year-old male has been detained in relation to this matter

"He is currently with police at Camborne Police Station and assisting police with their inquiries".
