The real reason for a big Land's End debate

The real reason for a big Land's End debate

Officials have revealed why an apostrophe ended up being the hot topic at a debate in Cornwall.

This is the argument about Lands End or Land's End - as it will be from now on.

Cornwall Council voted to add the punctuation mark at a meeting about election boundaries.

Speaking to Sky News, councillor Malcolm Brown rubbished reports the decision took 90 minutes!

"I think the Land's End one has caught the public imagination.

"There is uncertainty as to whether there ought to be the apostrophe or not.

"We decided to get advice from one of our local people who is an expert on place names. He said the apostrophe ought to go in and that was good enough for us.

"This is only for the purpose of naming names for the county electoral divisions that councillors represent - which is all very boring.

"I don't think any of the signs or the place names are going to be altered so I suspect you would see some which have got the apostrophe and some that don't".
