Sam McConnell

This single mum from Cornwall is battling cancer and has had to tell her children the devastating news that she has just weeks to live.

Sam McConnell has been diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer at just 46-years-old.

She grew up in Redruth but now lives in Lincoln, after years based there with the RAF.

Sam first noticed symptoms back in August and, after CT scans in September, her condition was confirmed.

Sadly, the cancer is too advanced for surgery or chemotherapy and the life expectancy is between 6-8 weeks.

Friends are devastated by the news:

"She is such a vibrant and energetic, fun-loving person - full of energy and love"

"Your strength in all this really is just, well, superhuman. You are actually wonder woman."

"Sam you are one amazing lady. I have so much respect and admiration for the way you are handling a situation no one should have to be faced with. Keep fighting. Love and prayers"

Determined to go out fighting, Sam said:

"I don't intend to give up without a fight and doing lots of positive mantras.

"I am going to dye my hair pink and spend my remaining days all Boho in a kaftan, shouting "Yeeha", watching funny movies laughing, cuddling singing, going through photos and days out if I'm up to it".

Five-year-old Grace and two-year-old Rory have now been told the heartbreaking news that mum Sam will die soon.

Sam has also had to turn her attention to what happens once she has passed away and has decided they will live with her cousin and family.

A Crowdfunder to support Grace and Rory began with a target of £1,000. It currently stands at over £16,000.

"Sam's message to us all is go out there, have fun and smile. Too live for her and if there is anything we fancy doing, do it - don't put it off. Obviously with Sam being Sam - the crazier the better.

"I am sure there are times when it is overwhelming for Sam but certainly the majority of the time she has the strength of character and her main priority is to help the children try to get through this.

"Grace is five now and certainly understanding - I know she was pointing at the stars and praying no-one would ever get cancer again".
