Train services in and out of Newquay were at a standstill on Tuesday evening, after an incident which scrambled the bomb squad.

A Royal Navy disposal team was called in after a grenade was handed in to the nearby police station.

That was evacuated and the train station cordoned off, with services between Newquay and Par temporarily suspended.

Police have confirmed what was initially thought to be a wartime bomb was in fact a grenade, found by a member of the public.

The train station has since reopened and Pirate FM understands trains should be running to normal.

The nearby car park will remain closed until bomb disposal experts have assessed the explosive.
