Vessel on way to France stranded off Cornwall

Crews on board a 15m Trimaran boat found themselves in trouble when they ran out of fuel on their way to France, ending up stranded off Cornwall.

They noticed problems with the vessel's battery charging system and needed to run the engines for the entire trip, which took up a lot of fuel.

They called for help 10 miles north of the Cornwall coast and Sennen Cove RNLI team headed out.

The crew arrived at 5.30pm and transferred extra fuel to the vessel.

"Sennen Cove all weather Lifeboat City of London III launched at 1655 (local time) at the request of Falmouth Coastguard.

"The Lifeboat was tasked to assist a 15 metre Trimaran sailing vessel which had reported concern for diminishing fuel levels.

"The sailing vessel was approximately 10 miles North of Sennen Cove and bound for France; however the Skipper was having issues with the vessel’s battery charging system and therefore it was necessary to run the vessel’s engines for the duration of the voyage to France.

"The concern was that there was insufficient fuel to make it across the channel.

"Sennen Cove Lifeboat arrived on scene at 1730 and proceeded to transfer extra fuel over to the sailing vessel, which allowed the Skipper to top up the tank sufficiently.

"Having ensured the vessel and Skipper were happy and safe to continue their voyage, the Lifeboat returned to station and was rehoused ready for service at 1815."
