Visitors have told Pirate FM staff rushed to get extinguishers from some of the other rides to douse the flames.

They were ushering people away before firefighters turned up, by which stage the blaze was out.

"I was on the ride next to it at the time. I saw some small smoke as I was going round on the ride, then I noticed the big thick black smoke that was covering us.

"As soon as it stopped I ran and got my phone off my mate and called for the fire brigade - it seemed like no one else had.

"I went over as I'm a first aider but no one was inside. I was at the fair with my service users so had duty of care to them and to get them away.

"I later went to one of the firefighters and he informed me that it was a lose connection which caught the fire. Just lucky that no-one was in there".
