A seal spotted tangled in netting off the Cornish coast has finally been cut free.

desperate search was launched after the young male, called Lucky Star, was spotted several times off the north coast.

He was first spotted back in May but was scared off before he could be rescued.

Conservationists were worried the entangled animal will not survive if he was not rescued and cut free.

The grey seal was then spotted alive and well over the bank holiday weekend in August.

But unfortunately teams still couldn't get to him quick enough to cut him free.

Now almost five months since the original sighting Lucky Star has been caught, cut free from the netting, and released back into the wild.

"Lucky Star the grey seal entangled in green netting in Cornwall, was today finally caught, cut free from the entanglement and released.

"Thanks to everyone who looked out for and reported sightings of this seal.

"It took a while but we got it in the end!"
